Bodø, the capital of Nordland

Founded in 1816 as a trade and commerce. In 1860, lots and lots of herring in the Vestfjord almost led to Klondyke conditions in Bodø. The fish was sold and frighted to Bergen, and from Bergen off world wide. On may 27th 1940, Bodø was bombed, and most of the city burned down. But, since then Bodø has developed into a modern city, especially known for trading and commerce, education, communications, and other kinds of services. Bodø has a fast growing population of 40,000. It has 3,000 students attending colleges and the regional university. Fantastic nature surrounds the city, and the midnight sun may be experienced from june 2th to july 10th.
