Trondheim
Trondheim, or Nidaros as it used to be called, was the first capital of Norway. The Sagas tell us how King Olav Tryggvason of Viking fame founded the city by the mouth of the River Nidelva in 997.
In the year 1000 AD Leif Eiriksson of Greenland set sail from this Trondheim town to cross the Atlantic where he discovered America (Vinland).
